Swishing Sisters!!!

It's official! The Sweet Herts Sisters love to swish!! We had such a fun evening and a great turnout - so thanks to everyone who came along. What a success! We raised nearly £150 for Breast Cancer Care. Well done peeps xxx

Pink Friday preparations...

We started with browsing time for checking out all the items and having a good old trying on sesh.

Then it was time to go in for the kill... and try and nab that perfect item we'd had our eye on.... no elbows please ladies!!! ;D

SWISH SUCCESS!!!! Nothing like the feeling of grabbing the perfect pair! (ooh matron!)

In typical Sweet Herts style, there was plenty of chatting.... and a few relaxing friday night vinos of course!

There were some gorgeous items on the swishing rails and everyone went away chuffed to bits with their new goodies.

We had a few items left at the end of the night so we took them to the Cancer Research charity shop.

And a big thank you to the staff at The Three Horseshoes, who were really helpful and even posed for a photo with us!! And the venue was absolutely perfect for our Swish Party.

Now that we've popped our 'swishing' cherry and we all enjoyed it so much... we're really looking forward to doing it again soon... so watch this space and we'll let you know when our next swish party is...

PINK FRIDAY: The Sisterhood Swish Party, Friday 12th November, 8pm
£10 entry - all money goes to Breast Cancer Care
The Three Horseshoes Pub, Smallford, St.Albans

This has to be one of the best events the Sisterhood has planned so far - a night that combines getting some fab new items for your wardrobe, Friday night drinks and raising money for a great cause!

Every Sister must bring ...at least two good quality, clean items of clothing, or an accessory (Handbags, shoes, scarves), that she'd feel proud to hand on. Have you got some fab things lurking unloved in your wardrobe that other sisters will fall in love with? Bring them along and hang on the ‘Swishing Rail’!

The cost to participate is £10, with all money going to Pink Fridays for Breast Cancer Care. As it's a PINK FRIDAY event.... we need to show our support by dressing in pink too- cerise, magenta, rose or salmon, the choice is yours! (You don't have to dress top-to-toe pink... although I'm sure some of us will!! Hehe! Even a couple of pink accessories would do the trick!)

We’ve reserved a great space in the Three Horseshoes, Smallford so we can enjoy a few drinks while checking out all the items to swish with each other.

So come on ladies- unleash your inner pink and join the Sisterhood Swish!!!

Fab fundraising for charity!

The biggest THANK YOU to the shining superstars who helped us raise over £500 for charity last Saturday! Thank you to everyone who baked, served tea, decorated the room, sold raffle tickets, handed out flyers, washed dishes, sold cakes and did all those million other little things that I can't think of right now!! And thank you to everyone who came and supported us.... hope you enjoyed the cakes!

A total of £538 was raised- £320 through our tea and cakes event and an additional £218 through our fantastic raffle to support fundraising for a 5 yr old girl in the local Hatfield area who is suffering from a brain tumour. A special big thank you to all who donated fabulous raffle prizes (including Toni and Guy Welwyn Garden City, Kim Channon Jewellery, Headlines Hairdressers Bengeo, Dotty Anglaise)

We have set up a dedicated website to capture our fundraising:
www.justgiving.com/SweetHertsSisterhood
If you would like to help us further with our fundraising efforts you can donate to The Eve Appeal direct through the site which also supports giftaid if you are a UK tax payer.

Thanks again and we will keep you posted with future events!

Up above the world so high…like a tea tray in the sky

Sisters... we NEED you!!!!

Wanna bake loads of yummy stuff? Wanna practise your cupcake decorating skills? Wanna have fun with your fellow Sweet Herts Sisters? Wanna do all this AND raise money for a good cause? Well you can.... if you get involved in our first BIG Sweet Herts charity event!

Date: Saturday May 22nd
Time: 11am - 2pm
Venue: The Millbridge Rooms, Hertford (opposite Castle Hall Theatre.)

We’re going for a kitsch retro 50s theme to the event, so get out your cutest dress (or just stick a flower in your hair and some bright red lippy!) and we’ll deck out the room with pretty things and play some Rat Pack classics to really get the atmosphere going!

We need volunteers for:

· Baking and decorating cupcakes, brownies, biscuits, scones and all things sweet- you can deliver these to central drop-off points in St.Albans, Hatfield and Hertford, even if you can’t attend the actual event

· Setting up the event from 10am in the morning

· Making and serving tea, coffee and cakes at hourly slots on the day

· Flyering the streets of Hertford to get customers in- we have even recruited several Sweet Herts husbands and boyfriends volunteers so let us know if you have any willing menfolk to support!

· Spreading the word in advance- we have posters we can send you to help advertise what we’re doing in your places of work

· Coming on the day and enjoying a cupcake or two with family and friends

The Sweet Herts Sisters have decided to support The Eve Appeal through their charity work this year. In the UK, 18,000 women are diagnosed and nearly 7.500 women die of a gynaecological cancer each year. Awareness and funding for research of these cancers remain low and we would like to support their fundraising efforts to improve this. We were inspired by their initiative ‘Make Time For TEA’ which invites you to host a tea party to raise money for the charity. Their campaign is sponsored by the Redbush Tea Company who will generously be supplying us with a tea parcel for the event.

We will also have a raffle to support raising additional money for a 5 yr old girl in the local Hatfield area who is suffering from a brain tumour and is being treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital. If you have something lovely that you would like to donate to help with this- please let us know. A big thank you to Sweet Herts Sister (and talented jewellery designer) Kim Channon who ran last Sunday’s Bracelet Making Workshop and who has generously donated a unique handmade piece of jewellery for our raffle!

We would love to have as many of you as possible involved in making this event a success and raising loads of money for this charity. Please e-mail us with how you would like to help towards the day and we will send you further information. sweetherts@hotmail.co.uk

Let's show 'em what the Sisterhood can do!

beading on a sunny afternoon

We had such a lovely afternoon at the charm bracelet workshop, run by our Sweet Herts Sister Kim of Kim Channon Jewellery - join her facebook group or check out her blog http://kimchannon-jewellery.blogspot.com/. We sat outside in the beer garden and created our jewellery masterpieces in the sunshine. With a pimms in one hand and my beads in the other, I managed to make an absolutely gorgeous bracelet! We all brought along old charms, trinkets and bits of broken jewellery and added them to our bracelets to personalise them. All the bracelets we created are unique (just like us!)and that's the best part. All the stones we used are semi-precious and the fastenings and gimps (tee hee) are all silver.

Some people also stamped their initials onto little silver discs and added them to their bracelet... this involved some pretty tough looking equipment.... reminds me of something a lumberjack might use!

It was lovely to see everyone who joined us for this session and welcome some new sisters too. We all want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Kim who did an amazing job teaching us some new skills and making the session so relaxed and fun for everyone. Fingers crossed Kim will be hosting some more jewellery making sessions later in the year... maybe earrings? I'm looking forward to that and I'll keep you posted...

Perfectly Charming!

Date: Sunday 18th April 2010
Time: 1pm - 4pm
Venue: The Red Lion Pub, Hatfield
Cost: £20.00
ADVANCE BOOKING ESSENTIAL

Come along to our Charm Bracelet Workshop hosted by Kim, our Sweet Herts Sister who also just happens to be a very talented jewellery designer (lucky us!) Kim will teach us how to do beading and attach jewellery fastenings. At the end of the 3 hour workshop you will take home your very own personalised, unique charm bracelet designed and handmade by you! (Not to mention the beading and jewellery making skills you will have learnt.)

All materials and tools will be provided. Hand-made silver catch, string, gimp (?! it's a jewellery word apparently!) and semi-precious beads (including jade, rose quartz, onyx and loads more) will all be included in the workshop cost of £20.00.

If you can't resist adding more shiny, sparkly pretty things to your bracelet, additional charms can be purchased at an additional cost on the day. They will include hand-made hearts and flowers £2-3. You will also have the chance to stamp out your initials or any letters you like on a disc that can be added to the charm bracelet - if you wish to do this you will need to purchase the discs seperately at a cost of £1 each.

Have you got any personal trinkets/beads/pendants at home? Maybe from a broken piece of jewellery you never had the heart to throw away? Well bring them along to the workshop and you will be able to incorporate them into your charm bracelet where possible. (I love this idea, it makes each bracelet really personal and special)

To book your place, please email sweetherts@hotmail.co.uk. We will respond to your email with payment instructions. Spaces for this event are limited and must be booked and paid for in advance. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and will be confirmed when your payment has been received. Once payment has been made it is non-refundable. Any questions, just drop us an email at sweetherts@hotmail.co.uk.

CUPCAKE MANIA HITS HATFIELD!

What a fab evening we all had at the Cupcake decorating class at The Red Lion in Hatfield on Sunday night! A big thank you to Janine, our teacher and our Sweet Herts Sister Lou for organising everything.

Look at that, all spick and span... the calm before the frosting frenzy! Then it got MESSY!!!.......

Our teacher Janine taught us all the tricks of the trade.... we learnt how to make piping cones, different piping techniques with large and small nozzles, how to colour our icing to perfection, how to create sugarcraft decorations like buttercream roses and DIY edible marzipan decorations with teeny weeny cutters and edible glitter and loads of other cool stuff. We all donned our pinnys and got stuck in. We borrowed each other's icing "Oooh, your red is redder than mine, can I have some of yours?", shared our creative ideas (Even the teacher admitted she'd be copying Bianca's heart shaped frosting in future!) and laughed at our splodgy icing mishaps! I don't think a single one of us could honestly say they didn't eat at least a bit of the icing along the way....

The result was 12 Sweet Herts Sisters with pinnys coated in buttercream, marzipan, glitter and icing sugar... oh yeah.... and a ton of ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS CUPCAKES!!!!

We all took home a lovely big box of our own creations... As you can see, I was very proud of mine!!!

Once again it was lovely to meet some new Sweet Herts Sisters on Sunday.... so if you or anyone you know is interested in joining us or running an event, we'd love to hear from you - email us at sweetherts@hotmail.co.uk or join our facebook group.

xFi

PS... We'll be able to put our cake decorating skills into action soon.... as we've got our Retro Afternoon Tea and Cake Sale fundraiser for The Eve Appeal in May.... we'll need to call on all our Sisters to get baking for a good cause.... more details coming soon.

We rocked the pots!

We had a fab time on Sunday afternoon painting our bits of pottery. What a great turnout of fabulously crafty ladies we had!

It was a challenge, but yes, we did manage to stop chatting long enough to listen to our instructions!!

Once we got going, there was some serious concentration going on...

Keep an eye on the facebook group next week to check out the pics of the finished articles all fired and glazed and fabulous! I can't wait to see how they all turn out!

...and we managed to polish off all of Lou's cupcakes and Fi's biscuits whilst creating our masterpieces - now that's what I call multitasking!

It was lovely to see you all and meet our new Sweet Herts Sisters... Just as I thought, you're a talented bunch and we're very excited about your suggestions of various events and workshops you'd like to host....Sisterhood Spanish Evening, Jewellery making and knitted accessories to name but a few... time to get planning and organising I think!
